Einstein's Dreams

by David Homan

Einstein’s Dreams is a string quartet, in four movements, based on the novel by Alan Lightman.  The score was adapted for the Award Winning Fringe Festival Production (2001) of Einstein’s Dreams, which went on for a successful off-Broadway run in the fall of 2001.  The work has been performed by the Colorado String Quartet at Bard College (Spring 2001) and at Merkin Concert Hall and the Thalia at Symphony Space.

Einstein was obsessed with time.  The book and play deal with various elements of time. Time moving backward, time standing still, and a myriad of other facets of time.  The quartet is designed to be listened to in and invoke a private journey, slowing or quickening one’s heartbeat, and giving the mind a sense of stillness where when the ending comes, you don’t know how much time has passed.
